Milwaukee Business Journal logoMilwaukee Business Journal reported on the Democratic National Convention (DNC), and how musical performances may not be happening in Milwaukee, but they will be happening through the DNC. From the story:

News flash: The Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee will feature musical performances “from some of the most popular artists in the nation.” However, they won’t be in Milwaukee.

Like nearly everything else with Milwaukee’s DNC experience, the convention’s announcement of its entertainment lineup including Common, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson and John Legend is a letdown…

In addition to the big-name acts, the Aug. 17 opening-night program will feature a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” by youth choir members from across the country. Democratic National Convention Committee partner Commonwealth Youthchoirs assembled a 57-member choir of young people for the show.

Variety - Yahoo - New York Post logosReporting for Variety on Friday, August 14:

The 2020 Democratic National Convention has announced musical performers for its (virtual) stage: Leon Bridges, The Chicks, Common, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers, Prince Royce, Stephen Stills and more, according to the announcement. The musical acts will be featured across all four nights of the convention, which will air August 17-20, 2020…

While no details were provided in the announcement, it seems likely that the musical performances will be staged virtually, rather than taking place at the Wisconsin Center, where the convention was moved last month from the much larger, 17,000-capacity Fiserv Forum basketball arena.

In addition to the top-billed acts, Monday night will feature a performance of the National Anthem from youth choir members across America. A 57-member youth choir will also appear for a performance of the National Anthem

by Adam Carlson | People

People logoFrom the People story:

Next week’s four-day Democratic National Convention will be more than a little musical, with performances from Leon Bridges, The Chicks, Common, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and others, officials said Friday morning.

In the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the DNC — like the Republican National Convention – was postponed from its original summer date and overhauled out of health concerns about large gatherings.

The Democratic convention, which will see former Vice President Joe Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris nominated as the presidential ticket against Donald Trump, will be based in the original location of Milwaukee but include virtual appearances from politicians, activists and celebrities around the country.

The musical acts are expected to similarly perform next week from various remote locations. A 57-member youth choir will join them for a Monday night performance of the National Anthem.
